Cooper Raiff is officially on the scene, well on the way to whatever levels of stardom his grounded, awkward approach can vault him to. His second film relies on a lot of heart, a genuine understanding of young adult culture, and, of course, a lot of Cooper himself. The central relationship here is between him and Dakota Johnson, an actress that has seemed to carve out a nice niche for herself in the young attractive mother role. Together they traverse…

be•guile- charm or enchant (someone), sometimes in a deceptive way.

Coppola’s totally in her bag here, complemented by a dangerous array of talent that blends coy deception with stylistic mannerisms that fit her flair. Led by a tense dynamic between Farrell and Dunst, the script blends the quaint southern dialect of the era with enough desperation and charm to keep the ball rolling from the beginning. The Beguiled tells a story of lust, false innocence, and shaded beauty in a…

    The Sky Is Everywhere

    ★★

The Sky is Everywhere has A24 written all over it, an experimental and surprisingly deep take on death. The edgy stylistic nature of the film creates beautiful unique moments, yet the creative liberties reveal a lack of substance in spots, masked by on-screen artwork and depictions with no apparent meaning (at least to the viewer). What is ultimately a powerful story never really climaxes in the best ways, and the supporting characters offer little compared to the protagonist. A true…

Gets better every time. Timeless and unbelievable sports story. Sugar Ray probably did just slip though, Dicky.

Fuqua confuses me, I compare everything of his to Training Day and therefore everything else is a disappointment. This one feels different than the others though somehow. The voice acting seemed way overdone, despite the excellent names in the cast, and (correct me if I’m wrong, but....) it seems like that might be the one thing you should get right in a movie that’s almost entirely voice acting. Gyllenhaal played a typical character you’d expect from him, and of course…

My evolution as a film lover:
First watch (growing up)- Jesse Eisenberg played Mark Zuckerberg pretty well, he’s the backbone of this movie!
Second watch (more recently)- Andrew Garfield provides the real emotion in this film, he’s the real backbone of this.
Third watch (even more recently)- That David Fincher + Aaron Sorkin connection is magic, nothing gets done without that.
Fourth watch (yesterday)- Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are gods among men, I have finally figured out what really makes this movie tick.
