More auteur driven blockbusters please.
It's a simple revenge story with creative artistic flourishes, beautiful big screen imagery and brutal violence. The sound design and score are both great. The action scenes are satisfyingly grotesque and impressively choreographed. Robert Eggers does a great job immersing us into this cruel and cold world.
I wanted to be more invested in our main character's journey, but he felt distant. The film is more focused on visceral thrills than emotional catharsis. The film is weird as shit, but I can tell that there's something weirder in here.
Eggers also seems to be a big fan of farts. I respect that.
