Scream VI

Scream VI ★★★★½

I am truly over the moon by what I saw!!

I wanted to start off by saying Scream isn’t my favorite horror franchise. I’ve recently watched all the films and I was pleasantly surprised at how consistent the franchise is. Every movie pretty much has the same premise but delivers its own commentary differently. I wasn’t the biggest fan of five so I kinda went into this one with low expectations. After watching it all I can think about is seeing it again.

The first Scream movie is obviously a great movie. Since i watch so many video essays about films I pretty much had already seen Scream without even watching it. When I came to finally seeing it there was no real surprise, I already knew everything about it. When I finished watching the franchise I enjoyed it way more for what it was because I didn’t know what to expect. That mysterious feeling was the driving force for my experience with this film.

Scream 6 is my favorite in the franchise because of how relentless it feels. The earlier films portray Ghost face as a clumsy slasher villain. This movie ditches that for a more cold and calculated version that we haven’t seen. There’s so much paranoia and uneasiness going on this film. It felt earned and well executed. That’s something the previous film couldn’t get right with having all the characters blaming each other every five minutes for being the killer. The core 4 are much more enjoyable this time around even having there moments to shine. Kirby and that awful hairstyle was so refreshing to see. I also enjoyed Gale too but she didn’t really have to be in this film, despite her having one of the best scenes in the movie. The kills are so damn gruesome and I LOVED IT. I hope I don’t sound like a sociopath or anything but it makes the movie stand out amongst the franchise. I also saw plenty of people point out that some characters have huge plot armor with the multiple stab wounds. Even though I did notice that it didn’t really bother me while watching the film. I was so caught up in what was going on I could careless. I also did not feel the absence of Neve Campbell. After seeing the film I have no idea what they would of did with her anyway. Everything about this film is perfect in my eyes, the callbacks, the opening, the setting, and that awesome ass ending. I don’t know where Radio Silence is going to go with the seventh film but best believe I will be there day one.

Hopefully I wasn’t all over the place with this review. I just wanted to talk about my thoughts overall about this film and how impressed I was with it. I had such a amazing time in the theater watching this with some friends. I got to say this is my favorite film of the year so far. I can’t wait to see what else is on the horizon.

Here’s my ranking of the films just in case you are curious
