Good ol’ fashioned fun when a meek GI meets a talking mule in Burma. Based on a series of short stories in Esquire from shortly after the war’s end, the character of  Francis is sort of a jackass. Somehow though, it works - I guess that was just masculinity in those days. You could easily replace Francis with a wisecracking soldier with a few loose script changes and this would just be another campy Army comedy. Fortunately they went for the Mr Ed angle and we have this bit of weirdness.

With ET mania in full swing, Mork from Ork narrates the history of aliens in movies. The cocaine energy is palpable, as Williams struggles to stay on topic between the weird interlude bits and the ads. Growing up is getting old enough to realize that the Farrelly brothers made some really shitty movies. The nicest thing I can say about their job on Shallow Hal is that at two hours, their ability to construct a by-the-numbers Hollywood comedy is the only thing that makes it not a totally fucking punishing viewing experience.

The premise of this movie sucks so immensely, and I remember watching this on HBO when it came out and being appalled then. Hal is so clearly a…

2/5th of this is weird late 10’s movie homage/parodies
2/5th is a psychedelic horror thing that makes no sense but looks cool at times
1/5th is a cringeworthy noir thing

This is somewhat reminiscent of After Last Season if that was a short horror flick. There’s some fart jokes, pop culture references and bad audio effects. I don’t know if it’s supposed to be Lynchian or what. There’s no focus at all - just random clips.

I would like to see some…
