I loved this. Hilarious and bizarre in all the right ways. Just a weird and beautiful little film!

The Thing 2011
This film is somewhat competently made. There's decent acting, it's well shot, and even though the CGI is overdone and makes the whole thing feel like a bit of a cartoon I thought the monster design itself was kinda neat in parts (particularly near the beginning)
Unfortunately the film really has no ideas of its own to make it worth watching if you've seen the Carpenter film, for which this is supposedly a prequel. It's a pretty hollow retread that feels like a film made to exploit its brand rather than anything made out of any real passion for or interest in the material.

I was really floored by this one.
It's basically an anthology of four Japanese folk ghost stories and, I mean, ok, I'm already sold on that alone but this film in particular has a really unique energy to it. The film uses sets that are feel more like you're watching a stage drama rather than a movie, which lends itself to portraying a strange sort of unreality to the stories.
