Alan Jarvis’s review published on Letterboxd:
Fritz lang made some of the greatest film noirs, but this isn't one of them. Plot owes something to Hitchcock's Blackmail, and the comparison does not flatter it. Still it is in a long line of 'newspaper pictures' which deserves attention. Most see journalism asan oulet for exploring all that is cynical and wrong about society (eg Lang's Beyond A Reasonable Doubt or While the City Sleeps as workaday examples or Ace in the Hole or The Sweet Smell of Success as absolute classics). But there are films which find it all exhilarating (His Girl Friday). The genre can be extebded to include some of the most significant and iconic of all films - Citizen Kane, say, or La Dolce Vita. There is a book in here somewhere.
