    This movie does blackface. 

    Historic for being the first movie to have synchronized-music and synchronized speech. It marked the end of the silent era and move to the “talkies”....but like 

    “Ignoring” the inexcusable racism of the film, it’s still only just okay. Some okay scenes and story, but overall pretty boring. If it didn’t have the achievements behind it that it does, it would have been a film forgotten.

    This film is far more enjoyable to watch than it actually is good. There are issues with runtime, pacing, characters, and overall story, but tone is a lot more warm and uplifting than most movies this year, and there is something to be said about a feel-good blockbuster. 

    Unfortunately, this feels like a film that will only feel more hollow as time goes on. The 80’s setting felt sort of unnecessary, and the sharp tonal shift from the first movie…
