Feels a little bit like a Family Reunion where everybody's favorite Uncle didn't show up. Everyone else is there and having a good enough time, but something's noticeably off. Just not quite the same without that special family member who always tells the best jokes, grills the best burgers, mixes the best drinks, and starts the best games.

In much the same way, the absence of Ryan Coogler's magic touch is definitely felt here. The screenplay lacks the sharpness and…

The rare movie I'm actually rating an entire star HIGHER this second time around. This right here is how you reboot a franchise - by creating an engrossing new origin story, while still paying nostalgic and respectful homage to the iconic characters and stories that have come before.

This is an entertaining, exhilarating "crowd pleaser" in the very best sense, a true master class in delivering what every good sports movie needs to succeed, especially for NON sports movie people…

    "I still prefer The Babadook."

This was everything Scream 4 desperately tried but failed miserably to be.

Looks like somebody took notes from Ryan Coogler and the Creed/Rocky franchise, because this follows the same successful template for rebooting a revered franchise in a way that feels fresh and relevant for a new generation of viewers, while still remaining nostalgic and respectful of the legendary creators, legacy characters, and loyal fans of the original films.

That "For Wes" dedication in the…

LOVED the fun, exhilarating, hilarious, multi-layered cold open, giving me high hopes this was going to be a fresh, inventive reboot of the franchise with something new and interesting to say.

Sadly, that creative, unpredictable energy just couldn't be sustained throughout the rest of the film, which ends up feeling mostly like a tired retread of familiar territory. I also truly HATED that final act twist/reveal, which strikes me as being the most ridiculous, annoying, and far-fetched of the Ghostface killers so far. Still works as a fun and welcome palate cleanser after the rancid taste of Scream 3.

"Bitch, hang up the phone and Star-69 his ass, damn!"

The moral of this movie: Listen to your Black friends. They are literally the only ones with any damn sense in this movie.

So much better than I remembered! Randy was dead wrong: Sometimes the sequel is just as good, if not better, than the original, as Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson have gleefully proven here.

The humor is sharper (pardon the pun) and hits so much harder this time,…

My horror movie fanatic friend encouraged me to revisit this franchise ahead of seeing the new one together. Haven't seen this since it first came out almost THIRTY years ago (yes, I'm officially OLD), and I've still never seen the fourth and fifth films, so this should be fun.

I remember liking, but not loving, this when it first came out. But with the benefit of nearly three decades of hindsight (yikes), I can better appreciate this for the smart,…
