Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ★★★

Disney. Blu-Ray

"Do you fear... death? Do you fear that dark abyss? All your deeds laid bare, all your sins punished?"

Part great sequel and part deviation from what made its predecessor stand out. What Dead Man's Chest gets right is the world building, here it's huge but ultimately leaves the seriousness and dark atmosphere. The addition of multiple characters and the scale of the world is truly magnificent with certain locations looking stunning. The additional characters also add great dynamics with Bill Nighy the standout, what a fantastic concept and casting. Hollander and Harris also add great dynamics but both characters are unfortunately built upon unspoken exposition with only a few lines that give its audience any information. An issue that the film has is its pacing, taking thirty minutes to actually get stuck in with any actual plot aside from just extending the prologue.
