Spike Lee rectifies his period war film misfire Miracle at St Anna and in Da 5 Bloods crafts a multifaceted and deeply compelling feature that once again rocks the establishment of film with a striking portrayal of multifaceted trauma. Delroy Lindo delivers a magnum opus performance in a daring and striking portrayal of trauma, grief and racial turmoil. A performance so utterly breathtaking and engulfing, it should be a no contest victory for a golden statue. Newton Thomas Sigel’s cinematography is also an element that conquers the screen with outrageously effective and immersive world building with an equally as strong colour palette to boast.
