“You are not prepared for what is to come”

In Dune: Part Two, Villeneuve crafts once again a thematically and visually rich spectacle with perfect balance of visceral and artistic expression. It is darker, bleaker and tonally complex with terrific balance throughout. In terms of iconography and production design it is nearly enough unparalleled within contemporary blockbuster discussion. Equally as impressive is Villeneuve finds away to find deeper engagement and engrossing depth…

“When you take on the responsibility, great power will come”

Madame Web is a consistently horrid, abysmal and patronising venture from a studio that has no interest in allowing a director to create, or understand the properties they have. Some blame needs to be put at S.J. Clarkson‘s feet but ultimately this a vehicle that has been sliced and diced by corporate conglomerates who do not understand audience or product. The editing is Michael Bay

    UNCUT GEMS - EPISODE 160

Last night I woke up in a cold sweat, I dreamt I was being chased by a giant banana”

The Concorde... Airport '79 is simply and purely cinematic poison. A feature so offensively stupid and dull it genuinely falls into being an Airplane sequel. Too grating to be defined as “so bad, it’s good” in a sense of quality, this is a venture that is patronising and ostensibly curated to fulfill economic quotas, rather than…

    UNCUT GEMS - EPISODE 160

“Excuse me, I don't mean to intrude, but could you move your ass, dear?”

Solely works on a level of its production design and setting that takes this franchise into the depths of The Poseidon Adventure with fun and creative excitement. Granted, it’s all a little silly but undoubtedly works in set-piece and sequence with peril and inventive execution. Surprisingly muddled and indirect in its narrative and storytelling with a silly and confusing plot that…

“Let the past die. Kill it, if you have to”

Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi is a bitterly disappointing, flat, tiresome, and ultimately disastrous attempt at wanting to stand out against the norm. The tone is completely utterly wrong for such a massively important episode in a franchise that needs to go darker and embrace it. It has no clue of what it wants to…

    VENICE 2019

”Is it just me, or is it getting crazier out there?”

Phoenix is phenomenal. Dark, gritty & fucking crazy Joker is more on the lines of Mean Streets than Taxi Driver but is clearly heavily influenced on the latter. It all looks to be serving a masterclass, but Phillips stumbles in the last hurdle with the film not knowing if it wants to stand alone as its own entity or be enticed and constricted by the lore that surrounds it.
