Finally it's been ages since an MCU film had felt this epic, expansive and stylistic. Only maybe like once or twice before this has it actually mattered who the director is on one of these films but here Sam Raimi's impact on the film is felt through some of the best MCU direction I've seen; them whip pans are back and better than ever. The story is also a lot more engaging than usual with journeys through the multiverse and alternative realities that while aren't fully realised creatively are still very fun and add a lot to the franchise. Something I wasn't expecting was for this to be great entry level horror with some genuinely effective jumpscares and creepiness to certain scenes that don't go that far but don't feel underdone either. Wanda is the MVP in this one and that surprised me because I wasn't really that interested in her character arc before but now with this I appreciate the setup of Wandavision and how it led to this film. This may not be the best newly released film about multiverses that I've watched in the last 48 hours but it's a satisfying 2nd place that really didn't stand a chance against Everything Everywhere All At Once.
