Zodiac

Zodiac ★★★★★

This is so close beating Social Network for me but it’s still a goddamn masterpiece!

For a film close to about 3 hours, I was never bored. Much like Social Network David Fincher tackles a bio pick while adding its own unique voice to what the characters go through. For a case that has never been solved I couldn’t help but feel unsatisfied as Jake Gyllenhaal’s character.
This movie knows how to keep people engage in the plot. For a long movie it’s edited fast paced keeping you guessing where everything is leading to.

I wouldn’t really call this a spoiler since it’s based on true events, but one thing I absolutely appreciated is it’s structure and ending. Seven, Gone Girl, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, all have their reveal of the antagonist being behind everything, but this is the first Fincher crime thriller where it leads to an interpretive ending.
I don’t think this film has an official say who is the Zodiac Killer but the ending hints what the filmmakers thinks who did it. Which I like to believe it was intentional. Apparently David Fincher had months of research to prepare for this film. Even the producers hired PRIVATE INVESTIGATORS to find one of the Zodiac victims. Like DAMN.
David Fincher is literally Robert Graysmith himself.

Zodiac is more than just a crime film, it’s about finding purpose and how it can be turned into an obsession, even if you’re on the right track.

Fuck, you know what? I’m watching it again. Dead serious.
