Letterboxd — Your life in film

The entire internet really wanted me to hate this movie, but I can’t say I did - though, frankly, I’m not entirely sure how to rate it. I was mesmerized by Dominick’s nightmarish vision, truly startled and unnerved by each scene, and quite moved by Ana de Armas’s performance. There’s some stuff in here that doesn’t work, and the film is undoubtedly three hours of nonstop pain and misery - but my God, what a stunning depiction of misery it is.

Re-opening weekend of Regal Arbor at Great Hills.

It felt only right to see this on the big screen - the last Best Picture winner I didn’t see in cinemas was American Beauty (because I was nine years old upon its release). Viewed at the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar.

One of the most impressive things about The Wolf of Snow Hollow is director Jim Cummings' mastery of tone. This film could have easily been two very disparate movies clashing against each other, but Cummings manages to seamlessly combine the genuine dread of a horror film with a sobering reflection on anger and alcoholism - resulting in a richly satisfying film.
