Portrait of a Lady on Fire

complete European cliche fest disguised with french scenery from the 19th century - the american's are gonna love this one!  lgbt period pieces make no sense to me either. To me, the only message they get across is the fact that the community existed long ago, and the whole story revolves around that and only that. Uses long-drawn-out takes that have less symbolism than I think it thinks it has. Sciamma's been doing this for a while and has done…

    It's Such a Beautiful Day

If you squint while looking at traffic lights they can look like stars. If you go just high enough on a swing you can feel like you are flying. If you have an empty, open mind, everything can be beautiful. The feeling of grass on your feet, the feeling of an ant on your hand, the sound of a baby crying, everything can be beautiful. Bill found beauty in everything, but only when he was looking the least hard, only…

There is one sequence in this film - the one where our two main characters (along with a fee others) are sitting in a jail cell. One is performing what we think to be his last breathes, and the other is frantic over that idea. That is one of my favourite scenes, sadly however, it is also one of the only parts I enjoyed.

I grew quite attached to the story it its first forty-five minutes or so, but beyond…

    Lawrence of Arabia

The scope of this film as a whole is so far beyond me. I still can't quite comprehend it and how it progressed and so much happened a lot of it is currently a blur, although I really liked it.

While I was definitely expecting something grandiose from the technical aspects (which obviously delivered), my expectations of how much I would enjoy it were very low. To my surprise, most of this was quite engaging. I feel like it knows…

Finally got to this, and it was pretty great. Definitely exceeded my expectations primarily due to the fact of how little I liked the original which I watched not too long ago. This is better in about every way; better acting, better set, better action, and maybe this is due to the fact of the much larger budget and better technology but even as a narrative it flows better.

I thought the relationship with the sister worked so much better…

    Blue Velvet

Birds chirping in the distance, a curious boy, a sensitive girl, walking alone on the sidewalk in the dark of night. An awkward first date, both feeding off each other's interests, some of which may put them in danger, but they don't care. He explores, she listens and worries. He explores more, she listens and accepts. They know all is well when they see the robins fly back, it is then that they are safe.
