The Godfather: Part II ★★★★★

This was on TV and I put it on after my rewatch of In the Mood for Love. Currently it’s on commercial but I realized it’s not in my favorite list.
This is a favorite without a doubt.
I don’t feel like much exclamation was needed as to why.
Al Pacino gives maybe my favorite performance as Micheal. And Robert De Niro as Vito is amazing as well.
But Diane Keaton is a scene stealer. I mean that entire scene in the hotel at the end when she’s arguing with Micheal is one of my favorite scenes in film. The first time I saw it I had to pause the movie and just reel from what I just heard.
And that final shot is one of the most haunting shots in a film.
Every scene is amazing.
The scene at the dinner table may be my favorite. It sums up the whole film in a single shot.
Micheal sitting alone as the family walks away. That’s one of the most perfect shots in cinema.
It says so much without saying a word.
And just the interactions between the characters are amazing.
The direction is amazing as discussed above.
But yeah this is my favorite Coppola.
It’s just perfect to me.
The Godfather Part 1 and 2 are both in my favorites of all time.
And of course when Micheal finds out who the traitor is I won’t spoil it for those who haven’t seen it but that scene is cinema.
And the scene it’s so small but when Micheal’s talking to the kids Kay comes to the door Micheal just looks her in the eye doesn’t say a word and just shuts the door was devastating to watch.
Every scene is cinema. This movie holds so many of my favorite scenes I can’t even say them all.
The story is expertly crafted.
As a big fan of Mario Puzo’s works The Godfather being my favorite just a magnum opus in terms of writing but I do prefer the films. Even though the book is one of my favorite books.
The score is amazing.
Just 11/10
This is cinema folks!
