JackBurton1234’s review published on Letterboxd:
Yeah fuck it 100/100.
This movie did everything I wanted it to and was just completely my shit.
What starts out as a procedural psychological horror film ends in an absolute bloodbath of carnage and mayhem.
That final act blew my socks off.
I’ve been waiting for a long time to watch this and I’m glad I finally did.
This movie has a callback to Opera as well which I wasn’t expecting.
It’s basically just a modern giallo.
It’s a slow build and it’s worth every minute of your time.
The kills are fucking insane.
The slashers weapon is one of the coolest I’ve seen in a long time.
The story is completely and totally investing.
Wan’s visuals are outstanding.
And the music is just perfect.
I’m way late to the party on this one but I will be rewatching this as soon as it gets a physical media release.
That final 30 minutes is some of the best stuff I’ve seen all year.
That twist is insane.
The twist itself is also a callback to another film which I won’t spoil for you.
This is one of those movies where everything just ties together perfectly.
Every little detail from literally the opening scenes play into it.
Wan just lets himself go here and that’s what Wan is best at it.
I really want to spoil it for you but just go see it.
Why did I take so long to see this film.
It’s just completely my thing.
Wan just outdid himself here.
More thoughts on a rewatch but just go watch it if you haven’t already.
Gonna have to pick up that soundtrack now.
Edit: Also the use of Where is My Mind is perfection.
