Pure comedy, with good special effects and stunts, just the way Buster Keaton knew how to do it.
It breaks the expected even in the mistery, the person who was supposed to solve the mistery is not the who actually solve it, and that's for me a really good play with the narrative.
It's not about the protagonist being a detective, it's about his fantasy of being a detective.
