ADDED TO "2019 RANKED" :)
It’s exhilarating to see a new Australian picture with a distinct voice, and even if Judy & Punch doesn’t speak very articulately, it’s got enough personality and positive intent to leave a sizeable impression. The score in particular is funky as hell — an eclectic blend of classical folk and quirky synths — and the final shot is a jaw-dropping reminder that problematic stories (like the eponymous “Punch & Judy”, which the film compellingly but clumsily subverts) ripple down generations and normalise cruel and sexist attitudes. 6.5/10
