Bringing it up to a five because it really is that good. David Lynch once said in an interview that he realized what Eraserhead meant to him when he opened up the Bible to a random page and read a sentence. He instantly knew that was what Eraserhead was. Now, as much as I would give to know what that sentence was, I don’t think it matters. So much mystery and fear is lost when you know what every little…

Chungking Express is a film with spontaneity and an intangible quality that no other film has. Set across a backdrop of ever changing neon Hong Kong, it tells two stories about how love can heal.

The first is about two characters, dreading the same deadline, or expiration date. They do their best to fight through it, but the day comes and they fail. It’s only after they share a (sexless) night together, they can move on, past this date.

Equal parts TP: The Return, Evil Dead, Cronenberg, and The Room? It gets progressively better the entire runtime until it peaks with a third act that I was smiling/laughing all the way through. I legitimately can’t describe the experience of watching this. If you are at all a fan of b-movies or campy horror in general, I can’t recommend this enough (but go in blind).

    “It’s a strange world, isn’t it”
While this may not be Lynch’s most complex or nuanced, it’s still perfectly weird and beautiful. Dennis Hopper as Frank Booth is easily the most intimidating villain that I’ve ever seen. Eatery time he talks, I feel frozen and exposed. What an incredible performance. The entire “joyride” sequence is one of my all time favorite sequences in film. From the use of In Dreams to Frank’s horrifying actions, it’s impossible to look away. I feel…

Easily my favorite of the year so far. Incredible atmosphere, beautiful cinematography, and great performances. It was very unique, I can’t really compare it to anything I’ve ever seen. It left me asking questions and wanting to rewatch right away. Definitely a great pick to see in the theater.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

That was an interesting theater experience. When Tony Leung came on screen for the first time, I stood up to give a standing ovation (as is customary), but no one else did. My sister kept saying “what are you doing, sit down”, but that’s expected because she isn’t familiar with the cinematic greatness of Mr. Leung. As I went on (I had to keep going for respect), people started yelling at me. For some reason, no one understood that we…
