    Monster House

    ★★★½

Monster House is an inventive film with stunning visuals and an a-OK plot, mixed with witty dialogue and effective jumpscares that would totally piss the pants of anyone pre-puberty. What I love most from this well-paced film is just how perfect the voice actors are in synced with their characters. Also deserving of praise is the effective storytelling of mature themes (grief, loss, death, maturity) in a way children can understand while still having fun.

However, the storytelling lacks that wow factor which would've easily made Monster House distinguishable and memorable (in comparison to animation classics).

    Parasite

    ★★★★½

I've never paused a movie so many damn time.

Bong Joon-ho's masterpiece Parasite is a gift that keep on giving. A chaotic comedy thriller drama that builds its character while presenting a darkly humorous structure of class divide. Satirical movies often is indulged with interesting character arcs and intelligent plots that disrubs and compels at the same time, but Parasite's layered twists and superbly tense last 40 mins is entertaining at least, enthralling at most. The cast's performance is great too.

    The Danish Girl

    ★★★★½

The Danish Girl probably didn't age well with all the negative reviews here, but hear me out - while this movie may be biologically inaccurate, it showed how far we've come since the 1930s. If Lili Elbe experienced cruelty and discrimination, its because homosexuality was heavily fawned upon then. If The Danish Girl repeatedly misgendered Lili, its because she was misgendered in her days. This is a sad reality we can't just paint clean to reflect our truths today.

    Squid Game

    ★★★½

South Korea really knows stuff on television and movie artistry, and Squid Game is no exception to their amazing executions. This Hunter X Hunter meets The Hunger Games-like show started off strong with underlying socio-economical commentary. Squid Game was intriguing and jaw-droppingly good until the plot plateaued into hackneyed and senseless brutality by favoring shock factor over seamless storytelling.
