Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer is primarily based on American Prometheus, a 2005 biography of the man by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. I have not read the book in question, but coincidentally, my favourite novel is Mary Shelley's Frankenstein of 1818, which bears the little-known subtitle: The Modern Prometheus.
