Bullitt

Bullitt ★★★★

This wasn't at all what I was expecting, but it's still an incredibly entertaining and well-made film, and I loved it. From those stylish opening credits that put to shame movies made today, you know you're in for something special. And indeed, it makes the police procedural more fun than it has any right to be. It's so much more than its legendary car chase, but I'll admit it's a pretty damn good one. The whole film, though, is on Steve McQueen's very capable shoulders, and he holds you riveted for the entire two hours. He was just the epitome of cool, and he certainly knew his way around an action flick. Honestly, I don't know what I want to say about this one. It just has style to spare, and it's an uber-cool flick. It's so well put together, such a masterclass in its genre, that it's a wonder they didn't just stop making similar flicks right then and there. They just can't hope to compete with it.
