Gandalf the Gay’s review published on Letterboxd:
I've rarely seen anything great in the gay genre but North Sea Texas is an example of a film I love. Everything about it works for me. Beautiful boys, believable acting, gorgeous color palette, dreamy songs ("Wooly Clouds", "Paper Wings"), minimal melodrama, tender young love, empathetic characters of both sexes, a timeless story, intoxicating sensuality, rejection of the masculine/feminine paradigm, and most importantly: a cute little dog.
I'm especially thankful for director Bavo Defurne keeping homophobia out of his hermetic narrative, and avoiding the repugnant "kill or punish your gays" cliches. Bittersweet but clearly falls on the side of optimism.
