Imperator Ç’s review published on Letterboxd:
“Anywhere there is people, there is power.”
It’s the greatest feeling in the world, seeing a newly-prominent director showing so much promise and such a compelling vision. Can’t wait to see where Shaka King heads from here, the sky is the limit for him.
Regardless, everyone’s hyperbolic remarks here and elsewhere had me prepared for a different film; and lo and behold, this is as conventional as they come, at least when it comes to the structure— but still tremendously proficient.
Dug that they cared to build a huge web of participants in this doomed succession of events; focus is important, but sometimes too restrictive.
But my boy Lakeith isn’t onscreen nearly enough, which is a shame; hope that tomorrow night will bring him some joy and boost his morale, he worries me sometimes with his Instagram captions. He’s so precious, always.
And yeah, Kaluuya is set for the gold, but I’ll just pretend he’s bagging it for Widows. #Jatemme4Ever
