Roma ★★★★★

Before I begin, I must say that I am a huge fan of director Alfonso Cuaron, I mean who isn't though.

I have seen all his films. Just within the last couple of weeks I went back and watched the only two I haven't seen in his filmography, which to most of the general public tends to be in the more forgotten about category comparing them to his two magnum opus of 'Y Tu Mama Tambien'; and 'Children of Men.'

These two films were his directorial debut ‘Love in the Time of Hysteria’ and the second of which was his version of 'Great Expectations' which was probably one of the fucking strangest adaptations of any book I'd had ever seen.

So, of course, unquestionably I was highly looking forward to this movie from the exact precise moment I first heard about it.

But then I read it was going to be a Netflix film...

Nothing wrong with that, but from the getgo I knew that this was probably going to mean I was probably not going to be able to see this movie on the big screen.

I love to support film, all different kinds of movies, especially ones from my favorite filmmakers.

But in all honestly looking past at my last couple of movie theater going experiences, let's say that I'm profoundly thankful that I got to watch this in the privacy of my own home and to add further on that, I just had recently purchased new speakers that are equipped with Dolby Atmos.

Also, I just finished my semester yesterday, so my daily dosage of depression has gotten slightly down.

Now for some that may not be anything special but being the one and only Michael "oh shit he's seen over 3,000 movies, gosh does he have a life?" Marino, I think it is.

If you didn't know, Curon specially made his sound mixing for this movie directly with Dolby Atmos audio.

And oh boy words can't describe the feeling of watching this at full blast in my house at 9:00 in the morning, adding to that there is no one besides me home.

So you'd guess that watching this, oh screw it, I'll say it, this "masterpiece" of a film was one hell of a magical and awe-inspiring experience that I'd probably never forget.

Now I must say I do love going to the movie theater.

Like you guys don't know how much I'm looking forward to watching The Mule tomorrow morning.

Nothing is more fun than spending $11.99 to watch a movie in a theater full of the elderly who are all there to jerk it to an 88-year-old Clint Eastwood.

And I can't possibly forget to mention to all the loud noises I'm going to hear while I sit in an enclosed auditorium that smells like farts.

Full of old people who are all eating their food in the loudest and in the most annoying way they can make possible, crumpling plastic wrappers prominently throughout its runtime and especially louder during all of the films quiet scenes.

Oh, and who could forget my second favorite thing about going to the movies today with the elderly, it's when every time an actor that looks familiar appears on screen, I get to hear an old married couple bicker with each out trying to ask each other who that particular actor is.

I mean it's 2018 what is the movie theater going experience without any quietness?

At this point, all I can say is that I can't wait to see If Beale Street Could Talk in a couple of weeks and have my experience enhanced with a free added soundtrack of people playing with their buttons to control their recliner seats over the entire length of the whole film.

No, seriously you think I'm joking, nope that happened to me when I saw Boy Erased two weeks ago.

I mean like it wasn't bad enough that I was looking at a fat Russell Crowe?

The answer is yes folks, yes it is.

I'm starting to think the movie theater experience for me as of recently has become what would be the equivalent of what would happen if I hired a dominatrix, and I told her that my fetish was for her to do some ASMR while I was being tied to a chair in an auditorium full of strangers.

Since this review is now turning into an Alcoholic Anonymous meeting but instead being for alcoholics, it's for my current struggles with my movie-going experiences as of late.

I minus well say fuck it. And while I'm at it why don't I ask for movie screeners like the non-union fuck I am, who would probably do anything to get into this industry.

I mean if someone offered me a 24/7 job of just having to suck one of Saoirse Ronan's toes whenever she asks me too.

Shit, I'd take it… and I know that 90% of Letterboxd would too if they had the opportunity.

I'm getting a little off track here, now back to Roma.

What a masterwork of cinema!

The story of Cleo is so beautiful and tragic. She has so much innocence to her, I honestly don’t know how Cuaron made such an excellent character study, and while at it being one about a woman.

I was honestly so surprised and refreshed by this since I thought that the trailers and from the synopsis alone that the film was going to be more about the particular family she worked for, and the lives of this family in early 1970's Mexico City.

Certainly, in ways it is, it dedicates time to the family throughout the film, as the relationship of both the husband and wife are in constant turmoil throughout it's running time.

But too me this is Yalitza Aparicio’s movie. She is so fucking phenomenal in this movie.

I would honestly give her the oscar right now if I could.

So anyway get onto the hype train now folks, cause in no time Film Twitter will probably be shitting on this movie within no time.

I mean I'm starting to think that the people on there don't like anything.
