honestly what can I say but that I feel like this is pippi longstocking through the lense of hayao Miyazaki. from what I understand, he wanted to do a movie featuring the character, and was unable to get permission from the author. so, most likely he probably went "that's fine. I'll just do my own version inspired by the character." I might also note that the title character has a penchant for doing handstands....while wearing a dress. for those who don't understand what the fan service was needed, id like to point out that this is/was NOT meant to be a "kiddie" film, but is/was meant to be an animated feature, specifically that was shown in theater and places like business airplanes.
