Watching this film I got the feeling that I was seeing something very important, a film that needed to be made and needed to be as well made as this.
While it's a huge step in the right direction, Moonlight feels like a wasted opportunity for more effective drama. By the time the film is over, I felt like there should have been more. Not sure how to explain since I'm still processing, but I think it ultimately comes down to the main character and how little insight we're given into the inner workings of his soul. Ultimately he feels more like a device then a living, breathing entity.
Still, Moonlight is a beautiful work of art, and should not be missed.
