  Summer of Soul (...or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) 2021

  Unbelievable that this footage was lost for such a long time. I understand people wanting the whole thing released (which I'm sure it will be at some point), but I personally loved the way this was presented and especially edited. Quick cuts and footage giving you a good idea of the time and in between some longer pieces of performance. And what a lineup they had....

  I'm curious to see what Questlove will do next.

  In the Heights 2021

  I normally don't like musicals as movies, but for some reason I had an absolute blast watching this. Of course it is corny at times, but I just love a story about a neighborhood all dealing with some kind of problem. Plus the gentrification issue is always relevant.
  I loved the scene when Benny and Nina are dancing on the building facade.
  Also, this movie makes me want to sell Piragua in my neighborhood next summer.
  And of course I enjoyed the songs and the overall message. Feelgood movie of the year for me at this point.

  Searching 2018

  I already liked the idea and possibilites when watching "Unfriended". The difference is that this one actually has a good story and plot. Basically the story ain't all too original but telling it this way makes it feel really fresh. Also, it doesn't get predictable and there's a shitload of little details throughout the movie that you might not catch on a first viewing but that are really smart. The writers definitely took their time here. Cool movie!

  This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

  This was way more fun than I thought it would be.
  Definitely flawed, especially plot-wise (I did not get James McAvoy's and that Gascoigne guy's motivation for instance). I also thought the soundtrack was obnoxiously cliched and was surprised that many people are praising it. The score got on my nerves at a few points as well.

  Another thing I (generally) have a problem with is the concept of the unreliable narrator. The whole film is pretty much a flashback…
