Tokyo Drifter is an astonishing kaleidoscope of humor, beauty, sadness, and soulfulness. A superb, colourful hangout film masquerading as a gangster drama, which is unmistakably Japanese.
Suzuki uses a broad range of colours and minimalist sets in the film yet crafts something that is incredibly memorable. Each shot is brimming with style and coolness, the film is a vibe seriously, it does not have that much of a plot butโฆ
I am really torn on this one, on one hand I totally despise the fact that Mr Sanjay Leela Bhansali thinks that a movie referencing an issue is the same as it being about that issue or exploring the issue, because he explores the themes of this film in a very watered-down and sanitized way to make them digestible for the people, but on the other hand I absolutely cannot deny the fact the film was pretty impressive in manyโฆ
The opening scenes were disorienting, they reminded me of Tree of Life, a movie I unfortunately despise ( I am sorry Malick fans). So, I was really scared to continue the film, as I thought it was something that does not align with my tastes. But thankfully, I was able to dig the vibe the film was going for.
