Unconvincing and dour. Humourless and lacking panache.
Between the choppy film school edits and the drama school acting, Malum fumbles it’s clunky and familiar set up. There are moments when the jump scares work but these moments are scant. It never reaches the depths of depravity of something like Baskin nor does it try to build tension or momentum like Assault On Precinct 13. Malum has the soured ineptitude of Rob Zombie’s Halloween films but without the directors “ambition” or sickly black humour. We’ve seen all of these elements before and done much more convincingly.
Endlessly stupid. Visually uninteresting. This is totally vapid “entertainment”.
