Funny Games 2007
even better on a second viewing. so fascinating to watch the concept of a horror movie get dissected, one slightly-too-long and awkward moment at a time. some of the best facial reaction shots i’ve ever seen on film. chaos disrupts order and life is a bummer

Jackass 4.5 2022
it genuinely feels like divine intervention how often they get hit perfectly in the balls

Unfriended 2014
honestly ,,,,, very fun, well-made slop. the data moshing kept me on edge the whole time. any movie under 90min gets an extra half star for knowing its boundaries

John Mulaney: Baby J 2023
something something tears of a clown something something the line between comedy and drama is a fickle mistress 🎭 etc
not nearly as funny as his other specials (which, like, makes sense) but still a good watch 👍
[him talking to that little kid reminded me of that youtube highlight of him explaining the OJ trial to a young girl named Lucy and that’s one of my favorite bits a comedian has done over the past decade or so]

Missing 2023
sooooo much fun! crazy twisty fun thriller woo!!!
BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, I NOTICED TWO TINY TINY DETAILS THAT I NEEEED TO KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE NOTICED:
1. the guy from lessons from the screenplay has a cameo, as himself, during the twitter feed backlash montage, tweeting about how this true crime case would make a great screenplay!
2. the main character’s google drive space was 420.69! that wasn’t on accident! who in production did that?!?! silly!!!!!!!!!! i caught it!!!

Knock at the Cabin 2023
i feel obligated to say that i am a hardcore m. night truther … but i feel like this is something you could recommend to anyone. it’s shot well, a little over 90 minutes, themes that should resonate for everyone in today’s day and age, and a fantastic performance from 6-time world champion, Dave Bautista. i love him dearly.
(i think this may grow closer to a 4* over the next couple of days but right now i think it’s…

The Banshees of Inisherin 2022
as soon as i got out of this movie, i got a text from my mom that one of my favorite relatives in on his deathbed with late stage cancer. he’s a fun, old hippie guy that i only met once, but he had a profound impact on my life. we would talk from sunset until sunrise, exchange music recommendations, and tell stories about what made us who we are. in the years that followed his only visit, he would…
