❤️‍🔥 LGBT Venom at the Little Simz show ❤️‍🔥

this was a much worse ~movie~ than the first one, but it really turned up the goofiness that i loved about the first one, so it kinda balanced out. i also loved the mrs. chen/anne scene 😁

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

fun! it’s refreshing to watch a MCU/comic book movie with a unique action style. the scaffolding scene really sticks out in that regard. idk if this is a hot take or not but Awkwafina was near insufferable for me during the first half of the movie — every single line was just bomb after bomb. didn’t expect this to go as heavy with the magic/fantastical stuff! that was cool. again, just another thing to set it apart from the rest. it did feel pretty long tho 🤞

the only negative thing about loving Succession is seeing any of the actors in anything outside of Succession and being like, “wow! Connor Roy just got split in half!”

    Venom

    ★★★

Venom the movie? not the best. Venom the movie character? talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, shit on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it

  • Halloween Kills

    Halloween Kills

    ★★½

i cannot fathom what they were going for here lmfao.

michael’s mask looks amazing, the shot of him coming out of the fire (the movie’s letterboxd background thingy) is STUNNINGGGGG, and the kills are absolutely fucking brutal. those aspects rock.

what does NOT rock, is this very bizarre narrative that they went for. it almost feels like you watched the worst episode of Black Mirror and you’re sitting there wondering what the writers are even complaining about. ALSO — when…

i gotta be real with everyone. i think when i first watched this, i had seen a few stinkers in a row, put this on, heard the dad utter the line “aw man, I got peanut butter on my penis” within the first 15 minutes, and had a bad taste in my mouth (pause) for the rest of the film. this time, however, energized by the spooky time of year and having seen a few great horror flicks lately, fully…

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

lemme get this straight, because i’m genuinely baffled rn…the first few victims’ secrets, which they were brutally murdered for, were:
    - bullying and beating the shit out of a gay kid
    - hosting a white supremacist podcast
    ……and then…
    - taking fentanyl?????
call me crazy but one of these things is not like the other

    Don't Breathe

    ★★★★

shit rocked, imo! really innovative concept that opens up a whole new world of suspense. things just kept getting better and better…until they didn’t. around the 3/4 mark, it kinda runs out of fun stuff to do w the camera + scares, and the ending/s dragged on for a bit too long. really enjoyed this tho

  • Swiped: Hooking Up in the Digital Age

Swiped: Hooking Up in the Digital Age

ham-fisted as hell. the woman they have talking about how *porn is bad* is breast feeding during the interview, the gay guy that they have talking about loving dick pics is wearing a shirt with penises on it, the frat bros are fist bumping eachother while talking about hooking up with multiple girls in one night, and there are ~dozens~ of shots of restaurants/bars where every single person is on their phone. it’s a shame that they stereotype everything so dramatically, because all the info/points they bring up are relatively interesting and coherent — but the whole thing never goes anywhere beyond the surface level
