OK, so it was sad ... but, a lot of the time, I also found it a chore to watch, too ... I only perked up briefly when she first started to behave erratically. I lost interest again when she started to receive treatment.
I KNOW this reflects badly upon me; we shouldn't treat the mentally ill as though they are freaks, or sideshows... but, I just never related to Sarah on a human level; I was more like a curiously dispassionate observer, watching an ant, or something ... I'd like to think I would be more empathetic than that, in reality!
I'm not sure what it was about the movie that prevented those emotions from stirring, within me.
