Shame ★★★★

If I ever see Magneto's junk again it'll be too soon.

Michael Fassbender's portrayal of this lonely, depressed and emotionally raw character is captivating, while Carey Mulligan displays her most engaging performance. Shame is most definitely a film about the unspoken. The crisp visual allows the audience a glimpse between the lines but nothing more.

Cool. Disciplined. Controlled. Steve McQueen excels, while Harry Escott's score stirs and provides the much needed emotional heft required to balance the rigidity ingrained in the lead performance.

Not an easy watch but a thought provoking one.
