I'm sorry... THIS came from the same guy who directed Last Stand?!
To say I'm shocked is an understatement. I saw I Saw The Devil and it chilled and moved me in equal measure. The cinematography is beautiful, the score resonates long after the credits roll and the choreography in some scenes is graceful as it is ultra-violent.
I'd heard great things about this movie but I wasn't expecting it to measure up to anything Park Chan-Wook had directed. Vengeance films can fall into the rut of being overblown, undercooked and extremely hollow. The performances from Lee Byung-Hun and Choi Min-Sik are incredible. Storm Shadow VS Dude from Oldboy spirals out from cool and calculated to fevered and frenetic.
Loved this movie.
Worth a watch.
