Alisa 💫’s review published on Letterboxd:
Watch this for a young, hilarious Jack Black and a bunch of other recognisable faces (John Cusack, Lisa Bonet, Tim Robbins, Catherine Zeta Jones).
Watch this for the genuinely effective and engaging fourth-wall breaks, as well as the effortlessly interesting atmosphere of a record store.
Everything else? The main character is extremely annoying, especially when he whines about women (which is all the time). Yet that would have been bearable, if there was something else to the plot. But, perhaps unsurprisingly, there isn’t.
So it’s just a boring, non-unique take on a relationship that I never come to care about. Sure, if you cut out all those scenes, you get some really fun leftovers, but not enough to make a great movie.
