“You really are a quote unquote fantastic mr. fox.”
“I try.”
I can’t remember the last time I had such a massive smile on my face while watching a film. Fantastic Mr. Fox is an endlessly rewatchable shot of joy. Consistently entertaining, always engaging, insanely beautiful, and feverishly crisp. My lower score was because I wasn’t acquainted with Anderson. While most would disagree, I don’t think this is a great place to start with Anderson’s work. I would instead opt for The Grand Budapest Hotel or Rushmore, films that are incredibly accessible, but also films that showcase his style and sort of ease you into his filmmaking. The only reason this film isn’t a 100 is because I have some minor nitpicks with it. I think that the consistent use of the word cuss in the film gets a little obnoxious. It’s amusing and cute at first, but I think it should have been kept at only a couple of uses. But that’s honestly it. This is a film that I am going to be viewing quite a bit. Charming, gorgeous, hilarious, and invigorating. One of Anderson’s best.
