The Sadness

The Sadness ★★★★

Damn this was all sorts of messed up! A Taiwanese "zombie" movie that for once actually delivers, by turning up the graphic violence to 11.

I say "zombie", because technically I guess they're like, "infected", they call 'em "crazy people" in the movie. There's a pandemic (get it) going on which turns people into insanely violent, sexually depraved psychopathic killers.

And that's it, that's the story. Sure, there's two main characters, this young couple, but they're only the main characters because the movie tells us they are. We learn virtually nothing about them, nor do we really care, this movie really sacrifices all for the gory set-pieces.

But therein does lay my biggest complaint. As amazing as the gory set-pieces are (and they are amazing), you just do not care for much else going on in the movie, which results in the scenes in-between dragging along a little bit... You're just waiting for the next set of gory violence.

But again, when it comes to that, it delivers! It's messed up, bordering on becoming a "disturbing movie", there's scenes in here that are so ridiculously over-the-top that you can't help but laugh as a defense mechanism. It had been a while since I went like, holy shit! And I went like that a couple of time during this one. Although, don't expect back-to-back gore! Keep in mind, there's a lot of filler, it's just, the set-pieces for the most part makes it worth the wait.

So yeah, if you don't care for anything resembling a story and/or characters, but love amazing splatter-y practical gore effects, be sure to check this one out! It fucking delivers.
