There's a lot of ham but no cunning here...

My 2nd John Sayles film and I'm really digging his sensibilities. He has a real good understanding of how adults interact and converse. His dialogue is intelligent and quirky but feels completely natural. The drama never becomes overwrought or melodramatic.

    Dawn of the Dead

The paradise that people want to go to after they die - the local shopping mall.

Before zombies simply became target practice for the video game generation, writer-director George A. Romero used them to deliver sociopolitical subtext in his films. In DAWN OF THE DEAD, Romero manage to tackle several themes from consumerism to societal collapse, all in a fun and creepy action-horror film. The effects look dated, but the film is endlessly engaging thanks to its wonderful spirit and themes that makes it all the more relevant today.
