ROMA is a love letter to the women who raised us; and it captures the humanity, love, and beauty of the Mexico I’m familiar with. Watching it was so surreal, as I literally felt like I was at the forefront of it all. It’s amazing how much I could relate to it, even to some of the smallest details that Cuarón included in his scenes. I could definitely see the influence Emmanuel Lubezki had on Cuarón’s cinematography, with every shot being absolutely beautiful. I don’t think I’ll ever get over how impactful this film is, and Yalitza Aparicio’s heartwarming— and heartbreaking— performance is one of the best of the year. I adore this so much, and I can’t wait to watch and appreciate again and again. Thank you to Alfonso Cuarón for such a breathtaking experience.
