The Tingler

The Tingler ★★★★

I didn't plan it this way at all, but I couldn't have selected a better film to end my run of 1950's-era space oddities and creepy thrillers—William Castle's "The Tingler" proved to be one of the most twisty, one of the most fun, and certainly the most self-reflexive of the bunch. There's something interesting going on during the film's climax: an appreciative audience watching the relics of cinema's past while they're invaded by the 'gimmicks' of the new...and yet, gimmick or not, my only reaction was that I would love to be in a packed theater screaming my lungs out to ward off the Tingler!
