Much like 2013's "The Place Beyond the Pines," Barry Jenkins' "Moonlight" is an intrinsically American film, and one that feels less of a traditionally structured screenplay and more a novelistic tapestry. Jenkins is the rare filmmaker who understands intimacy can often be conveyed strongest by two human beings gazing across the seemingly infinite expanse of a quiet kitchen. Without question, the best acted film of 2016.
