The Black Phone 2021
Scott Derrickson’s newest horror flick is one of my favorite films this year, and one of the best horror movies in a while. The Black Phone is perfectly creepy, and kept me entertained for its entire runtime. While there are aspects of the storyline that don’t make a whole lot of sense, the movie takes itself very seriously and never feels truly surreal (in a good way). The Batman 2022
Director Matt Reeves strikes gold. An incredible film noir superhero epic with perfect performances by Pattinson, Kravitz, and Dano, The Batman is well executed all around, and the best installment in the franchise since The Dark Knight. I’m not sure what I had expected going in to this movie, but this wasn’t it. Props to Reeves for his creative vision and realizing this as a dark, gritty, detective take on Batman as opposed to the usual clusterfuck of CGI with little substance. 10/10
