The One and Only Ivan

The One and Only Ivan ★★½

I never read the book and from what I found out the real gorilla behind this story had a hard time when he reached adulthood and a miserable live as a mall attraction. But of course they had to make a tear-jerking one dimensional story about the shallow existence that all animal attractions are. The gorilla ended up in a Zoo and that luckily happened to be a good resolution. Yet, the presumption that Zoo's are automatically the better jail for a domesticated wild animal is a bit of a far stretch of reality. Circus animals don't integrate well in Zoos and many times lose their families and all they hold dear in the process. To sell the life in a Zoo to the audience as being "free" is a bit disturbing too.
