Lee (baby you’re all that I want / when you’re lying here in my arms / I’m finding it hard to believe / we’re in heaven)’s review published on Letterboxd:
Revisiting, it’s no surprise the still cold reception this receives. 3.0 is harsh, unforgiving, uneasy. Even more so than End Of, it’s Evangelion’s darkest turn. Shinji has destroyed the world, our favourite characters have nothing but vicious contempt for him, he wears the burdens of his sins around his neck and sees the consequences all around him; a sea of blood, a mountain of skulls. And even still, his selfish desire for repentance and forgiveness nearly causes him to repeat his mistakes.
So Kaworu will save him once again. Secretly, it’s Kaworu’s unwavering, cosmic love for Shinji that fuels Evangelion’s world. Shinji cannot redo. But he will live on. You cannot redo. But you will live on.
