Wes’ trick of managing a boring movie with a really sweet ending almost got me questioning this rating. Almost. The Life Aquatic feels like a bunch of ad-lib with actors that are trying really hard to convince us of chemistry. This screenplay is messy and pretty dull and Bill Murray is often really hard to watch; he’s so just unlikeable. The charming ending does make for a spike finale, but a bout half an hour of this film could’ve been cut and we would be missing absolutely nothing. Steve Zissou was frankly really disappointing and an anti-climactic ending to my completion of Anderson’s back catalogue.
