What a crazy thing this is. The first act is just ridiculous in the best possible way. Its surrealist but incredibly realised and leaves the perfect amount up to the imagination. Yet, once you hit the second half, everything de-rails. Live action characters invade a really cool stop motion landscape and the plot, however little you think there is, gets infinitely harder to track. It hurts to give a rating this low because this is the definition of a technical marvel but as far as being engaged and feeling thoroughly connected to a piece goes, Mad God isn't very high up that list.
