“No, we have all the time in the world.”

No explicit spoilers, but I’d highly recommend watching it first; enjoy.

A Brighter Summer Day is one of the densest and profound pieces of art ever. It’s a beautiful dive into the heart and soul a changing generation seeking sanctuary in a time and place where their household values and country collide and the tragic response to it. It’s such an unadulterated view into the Taiwanese experience, but that never restrains…

    [1000TH REVIEW]

“I still have no idea how to find happiness...but I’ll just stay here”.

This film is extremely important to me, as is the entire series. Neon Genesis and Twin Peaks are two pieces of fiction that have irreversibly changed the way I think; both in cinematic terms and otherwise. This film has so much to unpack, and while there are small details that reveal the bigger mosaic, yet I think the *feeling* of End of Evangelion and the…

    “How do you feel?”
        -“Young.”

A wonderfully tasteless and brash exploitation romp that honors all of the traditions of the controversial genre. People’s response to this is truly one of the most strange things I’ve seen in recent film related memory. It’s as if all the people in the cinema had lost any kind of self control and degraded into neckbeards who laugh at possession and pedophilia, very curious! In any case I do understand the hate and the insecure fun that’s being had at this films’ expense, but for me this worked in such a unique and unsettling way.

    Short Review:

Here’s everything I’ve found about What Did Jack Do? I’m fairly sure it’s not available online — legal or otherwise — and as far as I’ve seen there aren’t any indications of it being included on a home release; though it’s a possibility.

I found it was screen at this film festival in 2017 and the link I added takes you to a FaceBook post with much more context and background. Though I’m assuming it’s a masterpiece, I doubt…

    “My body obeys me.”

Essentially capturing everything that makes science-fiction; universal and human themes with a technologically advanced setting. Claire Denis’s hypnotizing effect completely entranced me with her patient storytelling, a singular moment in the desolate nothingness has never felt more human.

A spellbinder to be sure, a film leaving you with more questions than answers, it’s sexual duality is impeccable never really cementing a narrative, leaving the viewer to take everything in as they will.

    A detached experience that…
