A Ghost Story

A Ghost Story ★★★

A Ghost Story, written and directed by David Lowery, is a depressing film about love, time and what it means to live.

The film follows a white sheeted ghost (Casey Affleck) as he travels through time waiting for his significant other (Rooney Mara). While I loved the ideas this film presented, the way it was presented and overall how it was made is done poorly.

Act I is very boring, often minutes on end of a single shot where nothing happens. The entire first act is overly-pretentious and in the end felt like a chore to get through. The second act is slightly better but for the most part a chore.

When act III begins the film starts to pick up it's pace with an incredible monologue on life (worth watching just for this scene, beautifully written and acted). I was intrigued throughout the third act and ended up enjoying it quite a bit.

Overall, worth a watch if you are patient. And definitely not worth a watch if you are inpatient.
